Job Description

SUMMARY

The Pharmacy Trainer III has substantial experience in training and delivering a standard curriculum which drives a consistent learning experience, best-in-class customer experience, and builds colleague engagement. You will deliver on-the-job training to new pharmacy employees, support and coordinate ongoing training of current pharmacy employees, and conduct initial and annual competency assessments in multiple areas of the pharmacy including a laboratory environment. The Pharmacy Trainer III will assess and qualify subject matter experts (SME) to support the delivery of training. You may also train and/or mentor other pharmacy trainers.

With support from the Training and Education Program Manager, Pharmacist in Charge, and other site leadership, the Pharmacy Trainer will help maintain the quality and effectiveness of training and ensure the accurate completion of all training documentation. As part of the Quality and Regulatory team, you will maintain training records that are organized and up to date to meet all required regulations. You will collaborate with other pharmacy trainers and subject matter experts in developing training materials. You will also be responsible for assigning training, tracking training completion, and maintaining an up-to-date employee training versatility matrix.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Ensure new hires feel welcomed, supported, and have clear expectations in their learning plans.
  • Within the guidelines of pharmacy regulations and with pharmacist oversite, conduct on-the-job training for new employees or employees being cross trained in a new area.
  • Ensure complete and accurate documentation of all aspects of an employee's pharmacy training records.
  • Assess and train SME trainers to ensure training and documentation is completed as needed and required.
  • Coordinate training activities with SME trainers for special skilled functions when the Pharmacy Trainer is not able to complete the required training.
  • Conduct required initial and annual competency assessments in the nonsterile and/or sterile laboratory.
  • Track, trend, and report variances in the employee training versatility matrix to the Pharmacist in Charge and Operations leadership.
  • In partnership with the quality team, assess the instructional effectiveness of training on overall productivity KPIs.
  • Take a lead role in developing and writing monthly training, competency assessments, and training itineraries.
  • Play a key role in identifying gaps in training and provide input into updating or creating new Standard Operating Procedures and training documents.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness and provide timely feedback to learners and managers for newly hired personnel.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts and seek opportunities to improve training delivery and processes that results in desirable outcomes.
  • Build positive relationships with Pharmacist in Charge, Operations leadership, Pharmacy Managers and Supervisors
  • Majority of time will be spent performing the Pharmacy Trainer role, dedicated hours will be spent performing pharmacy and operational duties.
  • Limited travel may be necessary.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • None although strong influencer/leader in the organization

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Have five (5) years of experience in the profession of pharmacy, sterile and/or non-sterile laboratory experience, or other relevant experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician within the state of hire will be required
  • Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT via PTCB or ExCPT)) or a plan to become nationally certified within 3 months of hire.
  • Preferred certification in Sterile and NonSterile Compounding

COMPETENCIES (SKILLS AND ABILITIES)

  • Knowledgeable and proficient in all cross-functional pharmacy areas, including but not limited to sterile and non-sterile laboratory work
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and retain information readily
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, presentation skills.
  • Able to interact with all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrate initiative, possession of strong organizational skills, and attention to detail
  • Strong coaching and feedback skills.
