Here is a brief summary of what one would expect to be generally responsible for in this role.
Identify significant science questions within the context of the overall program objectives.
Conduct analysis and/or numerical simulations to address the science questions, publish the results in peer-reviewed literature, and otherwise communicate results to the collaborators and broader scientific community.
Additionally, these positions come with unique opportunities to:
Collaborate with a broader team including modelers and observationalists,
Use process model results to participate in the design of observational process studies, and
Develop and test physics-based parameterizations for convection and Earth system models.
Successful candidates will ensure their application materials speak to the following criteria:
Education and Experience (Required/Desired):
A Ph.D. or equivalent experience in atmospheric science, climate science, and/or related field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Required/Desired)
REQUIRED
Experience in analyzing output data of radar observations, flight observations, Large Eddy Simulations, and regionally refined models or similar.
Demonstrated understanding of atmospheric dynamics, convection, and cloud microphysics, and knowledge of cloud-aerosol interaction.
Demonstrated capacity to develop sophisticated diagnostics for climate dynamics research.
Demonstrated familiarity with microphysics schemes
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Proficient in scientific Python or other programming languages.
DESIRED
Familiarity with Large Eddy Simulations or Cloud Resolving models
Familiarity with cloud-aerosol interaction pathways
Familiarity with statistical analysis tools
