The Network Engineer III is a hands-on technical position that will work on LAN / WAN implementation and supporting issues in a complex network environment. This position will participate in all day-to-day activities and project goals in a Cisco based environment. Technical responsibilities include providing design, implementation & support of WLAN, LAN, MPLS WAN and VOIP telecommunications infrastructure across multiple and various sites nationwide.

As a technical specialist, this position will be required to provide resolution guidance to the other team members for advanced systems design, problem resolution and project management. Network/systems security will be a heavily emphasized set of responsibilities for this position. Will help lead and actively participate in projects supporting network and telecommunications infrastructure implementations and enhancements. Coordinates with local POC's to ensure strategic alignment and governance compliance.

Sierra Space-based in Louisville, CO with operations in Madison, WI, Durham, NC, Huntsville, AL, Houston, TX, and Kennedy Space Center, FL-designs and manufactures the Dream Chaser spaceplane and other advanced spacecraft, commercial space destinations, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers, and international organizations.

This position is part of the Dream Chaser Flight Operations Directorate's Mission Systems Element. Mission Systems includes the facilities, equipment, software, and communication infrastructure necessary to operate the Dream Chaser spacecraft. Engineers within the Mission Systems group are responsible for the design, integration, testing, and maintenance of Dream Chaser Mission Control Center systems. These systems are used throughout spacecraft development, integrated testing, and real-time mission operations.

This hands-on technical position will work on control center LAN / WAN implementation and support issue resolution in a complex, mission critical network environment. As part of a diverse Mission Systems team, this position will participate in all day-to-day control center activities. Technical responsibilities include design, implementation, and support of LAN, MPLS WAN, VOIP telecommunications and firewall infrastructure across multiple sites nationwide. As a technical specialist, the candidate will be expected to provide guidance to other team members for systems design, problem resolution, and project management. This position will help lead and actively participate in projects supporting network and telecommunications infrastructure implementations, sustaining maintenance, and enhancements. Network/systems security will be heavily emphasized in cooperation with the Mission Systems cybersecurity POC. The candidate will be expected to coordinate with multiple IT POC's at SNC, NASA, and other subcontractor organizations to ensure strategic alignment and governance compliance.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Working as part of a small and dynamic team to complete the development and certification of Dream Chaser control center systems.

  • Support mission-critical network services, maintaining SLA's for security and reliability.

  • Support plans and documentation for control center networks & telecommunications systems.

  • Design & manage network implementation solutions and projects.

  • Support for overall control center design, integration, and build-out.

  • Test plan development, execution, and reporting.

  • Design and operations documentation development, including systems manuals, operations handbooks, interface control documents, and operational procedures.

  • Training and support for other team members and end users

  • Real-time monitoring, anomaly resolution, and operations support

  • Deploy, sustain, troubleshoot and repair standard voice, data and video network infrastructure systems, IP detection systems and cryptographic equipment.

  • Perform, coordinate, integrate and supervise network design, configuration, operation, and improvements.

  • Patch and harden networks as needed.

  • Punctuality to work each day and prepared to work scheduled work hours.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Must-haves:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Computer Science, or another related field and typically six (6) or more years of relevant experience; higher education may be considered in lieu of experience.

  • Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education.

  • Experience Design & manage network implementation projects in a dynamic fast paced environment.

Preferred:

  • Cisco CCNA/CCNP/CompTIA Network+ highly desirable

  • Hands-on expertise and experience with a wide variety of network related tools, concepts, technologies, best practices and security procedures* Hands-on expertise with network hardware, protocols, and media including but not limited to Fiber Optics, UTP, 802. 11, VOIP* Expertise knowledge of MPLS, DNS, DHCP, directional wireless

  • Hands-on experience configuring and deploying Palo Alto zone-based firewalls rules and policies.

  • Experience in Systems Administration, DevOps Support, and/or Network Administration.

  • Information Assurance (IA) hardening and compliance, i.e. STIG & DSS compliance, documentation, etc.

  • Travel and flexible work hours are periodically required.

  • Motivated and resourceful self-learner and problem-solver

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to work in a highly collaborative, fast paced environment with an emphasis in rapid prototyping and hands-on involvement.

Estimated Starting Salary Range:

$95,298.10 - $142,947.16

Sierra Space offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
